Terms & Conditions for Volunteering BlackBerry Radio

Enrollment and Deposit

As a BlackBerry Radio Volunteer you can enroll in the program of your choice by completing BlackBerry Radio’s online enrollment form and submitting your non-refundable annual membership fee of $59 (or $10/month). Once you are accepted as a member, this fee will be credited toward your total membership. The fee is due at least ten days before you begin your BlackBerry Radio show on your chosen radio station.

Program Fees

BlackBerry Radio wants you to succeed in your goal to obtain technical knowledge of the radio industry. That means having in place the support our volunteers need. We do not just drop you in a genre of music station and hope for the best. We provide training before you go live with your show, during your show’s airing and production, 24/7 phone support, support for your ideas you may have concerning your show, accommodations for interviews, and booking support for show guests. The idea is to make the BlackBerry Radio experience successful and productive for you, and we have found that these things are crucial. Remember that we are a non-profit, mission-driven organization – we only spend money on what we hold to be important.

A responsible volunteer program provides support to volunteers before, during, and after their experience, and takes steps to ensure that programs are helpful to the careers of radio and broadcast volunteers when they seek employment in the field.

Many of our volunteers fundraise for their radio shows by securing donations from individuals and businesses, who may choose to donate as little as one dollar a day, or one-dollar total. Donors may give any amount they choose by visiting blackberryradio.com/donate. On-air volunteers may also get sponsorships for their radio show. The sponsorship fee for any radio show is $200 per month. The sponsor will receive live on-air mentions at the beginning of every hour of your show for thirty days. If a sponsor wants to sponsor the radio station, then that sponsor will recieve a mention at the first hour of every show for a total of $500 per month. We have a fundraising guide to support you in these endeavors and our Program Coordinators are always ready to share ideas and help you in any way possible! No matter how you decide to pay for your BlackBerry Radio volunteer fee, we must receive your full non-refundable membership fee at least 10 days before your program’s start date.

Postponement Policy

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and you may need to change the dates of your program. If you choose not host your BlackBerry Radio show, we cannot refund your fee, but will use it as a general donation to be used toward the work of our charitable mission.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Due to our status as a non-profit organization, all deposits and payments made to BlackBerry Radio are considered donations and are therefore non-refundable, whether you participate in your BlackBerry Radio show or not. In addition, canceling your program close to your departure date causes additional stress on our volunteer staff and post producers who have been preparing scripts, editing, converting files, and scheduling your show. Should your original BlackBerry Radio show’s start date no longer work for you, please see our Postponement Policy above.

Volunteer Contract

All of our volunteers sign a contract, agreeing to a Code of Conduct that is designed to protect our volunteers and listeners, making this program a great experience for all involved. Like any other program we also ask that you comply with our rules, as they are there to keep our volunteers, listeners and relationships productive. In the rare case we have to ask someone to leave the program because they have not complied with one or more of the rules in the volunteer contract, the program fee is completely non-refundable.

Discounts

As much as possible, we aim to make our programs accessible to all volunteers and provide discounts to be used toward select programs and events. Applicable discounts will be applied to the balance of the program fee after enrollment. Discounts are not to be combined except for our Alumni Discount and Buddy Discount.

The Alumni Discount will be provided to any participant who previously successfully completed a full year of volunteer work with BlackBerry Radio, as our goal is to encourage you to develop your global competencies. This Discount is available to alumni for life.

When BlackBerry Radio is hosting a family event, there is no charge for children under the age of eight years of age. We welcome teens to volunteer at these family events.
